Where are you located?
Mercy's Door Pet Rescue is based out of Savannah, Ohio. We do not have a facility, though, so all of our dogs are in foster homes in different areas. The location of each dog will vary depending on where they are fostered. If you are interested in meeting a dog, please apply. Once approved we will put you in contact with the dog's foster family to set up a meeting.
What is the adoption fee?
The adoption fees are explained on the adoptables page.
I live out of state, can I adopt?
Out of state adoptions are an option. Just like with any adopter, we do ask that you are willing to come here to meet the dog first. Adopting is a lifetime commitment and we do not believe in doing an adoption without having first done meet and greets to see if it's the right fit. If there are current dogs in the home, they will need to come along as well for the meet and greet. There are exceptions to this (if you are within a certain radius and have no current pets in the home), but for the most part we will ask adopters to come here. This not only shows us that you are serious about this commitment, but we like to see first hand that the connection is there and it is a perfect match.
What do I need to do to meet a dog?
Because we do not have a facility and our dogs stay in private homes, you must first be approved to have a meet and greet set up. To become approved, start by filling out the adoption application. You are welcome to meet any of the adoptable dogs at our public adoption events, though not every dog will be at every event so depending on who you are interested in, the better option is to start by filling out an application.
Is a fence required?
In general, no, a fence is not required, though we may specify the need for certain dogs.
What's your phone number?
We do not have a facility, therefore the rescue does not have its own phone number. If you need to contact us please send us an email. It is the easiest way to reach us, and the most convenient to answer to start since we can reply easily whenever we have the free time.
I applied to adopt, how long will it take to hear back?
Each application that comes in is processed by our dedicated volunteers. We take placing our dogs very seriously, so we ask that you are patient with us and give us up to a week to get back to you. If your application is not approved, we will let you know as soon as that decision is made. If your application is approved, we will be in touch with you to set up a home check (required) and meetings with the dog and your family.
IF AT ANY TIME YOU CHANGE YOUR MIND, OR ACQUIRE A DOG FROM SOMEWHERE ELSE, LET US KNOW! We will stop working on your application and move on to others that are still interested in adopting from us. Our time is limited, so please be considerate and understand our need to know ASAP if your application no longer needs worked on.
