PictureOtto
OTTO -  not yet available
Age: 4 years
Weight: 43 pounds
Dogs: Sure!
Cats: Sure!

Otto is going to make someone the best dog. He's obviously been neglected in his past as he's very malnourished and heartworm positive. But he's so sweet and gets along with dogs and cats and he doesn't bother chickens or ducks! Follow along his story as he heals from heartworm disease.

PictureKyro
KYRO - available
Age: 2 years
Weight: 73 pounds
Dogs: Potential to live with one other dog
Cats: No way!

Kyro was rescued from a local shelter that's busting at the seems. He's done great with dogs he's met at his foster home, both female and male. (However, Akitas really shouldn't be in a home with multiple dogs; it's much better to have just one dog companion.) Kyro has a high prey drive so cannot be in a home with any cats or small animals. He's great to walk on a leash, but you better hold on when he sees a squirrel, cat ,or rabbit! Please go to the Akita Club of America and read up on the breed before considering adopting.

PictureNigel
  • NIGEL -  not yet available
    Age: years
Weight: 45 pounds for now, while working to restore weight
    Dogs: Sure!
    Cats: Sure!

Meet Sir Nigel Wentworth Higginbottom! This soulful, gentle boy has clearly been through a lot. He came to us with paw burns, fly strike scars on his ears, skin issues, and a mild case of kennel cough—all signs of long-term neglect and life on the streets. Just days after being rescued, Nigel became very ill—vomiting, diarrhea, and severe lethargy. We feared the worst: an obstruction. Thankfully, it wasn’t, but the emergency vet visit, blood work, and continued care already cost over $800, and that’s just the beginning. He still needs follow-up visits, medication for significant separation anxiety, and eventually, neuter surgery once cleared by the vet. And yet—through all of this—Nigel is pure love. He knows sit, shake, lay, fetch/drop it, and responds well to redirection. He’s sweet with the female dog in his foster home , and he’s even trying to convince the cats to play. Someone loved him once… and now he needs that love again. Stay tuned to follow his progress in his wonderful foster home.

PictureCalliope
CALLIOPE "CALLI" -  not yet available
Age: 8 years
Weight: 55 pounds
Dogs: Sure!
Cats: Sure!
Calli is the sweetest girl. The Animal Control Officer who picked her up from a "stray" call-in would almost guarantee that the house was her house. The neighbors said Calli lived there but the owner wouldn't admit it. Calli stared at her owner as he walked away from her and she didn't want to leave the driveway. Calli is now healing her heart in her foster home. So far she's doing great! She hasn't had any accidents, she slept through a thunderstorm, and she loves to snuggle. Other dogs and cats are friends to her! She appears to have some issues going on with her legs and will be evaluated and treated (if indicated) prior to adoption. Stay tuned!

PicturePorkchop
PORKCHOP -  available
Age: 3 years
Weight: 50 pounds
Dogs: Sure!
Cats:
Happy face, neck rolls galore and a wagging tail that won't quit - that's Porkchop! This jolly nugget has a cheerful goofball vibe and he's always good for a laugh. He has a warm personality and entertaining yet easy-going ways. Porkchop is quite people-oriented and he just loves soaking up attention from humans. On walks, he takes frequent breaks to hop up onto a bench in the hopes of a cuddle session. He'll treat you to a kissy session like he's on a sloppy first date - but he still manages to make it charming. Porkchop enjoys playtime with toys or bopping around on walks. He is a good car passenger - hops right in and looks out the window - so he's ready to hit the road for the next adventure, such as a hike on one of our local trails. Then he's ready to unwind with a cuddle session at the end of the day. Porkchop knows how to sit (though sometimes he can't help bouncing up early in his enthusiasm for a cookie), and seems like he could be housebroken. He was gently sociable with other dogs for his play group assessment.

PictureMako

PicturePennie
  • PENNIE -  not yet available
    Age: 10 months
    Weight: 30 pounds
    Dogs: Sure!
    Cats:

Sweet Pennie found herself in a very overcrowded shelter. Now she's enjoying the good life in her foster home. She is so precious and going to make someone a great companion!

PictureOliver
  • OLIVER -  not yet available
    Age: 6 months
Weight: 18 pounds; will likely grow to be a medium-sized dog
    Dogs: Sure!
    Cats: Sure!
  • Kids: Sure!

Puppy perfection = Oliver Winston. This sweet young guy has been through lot. He was found in a closet after his pop owner was stabbed. He is understandably a little unsure and reserved right now, but we can't wait to see how he blossoms over the next few weeks. He's a zen puppy who's ready for someone to fall in love with him. Oliver is excellent with cats, dogs, and kids. He really is pretty much perfect! Even though he's had trauma in his life, he has a heart of gold. He is chill, loves everyone, is extremely sweet, and learns quickly. He has the potty training down pat. He spent his first full night in his foster home crated. He wants to please his people, listens attentively, and could not be cuter!

PictureIris
  • IRIS -  not yet available
    Age: 2 years
    Weight: 41 pounds
    Dogs:
    Cats:

Iris just needed a chance to decompress and now she has it. From super stressed in an overcrowded shelter, to resting comfortably in her foster home, she is so relieved to be a Mercy's Door dog! Iris is sweet, petite and has an underbite to steal your heart! Queen of the "teef," Iris is a little charmer who is a wonderful balance of affectionate, silly, curious, and easy-going. She's a go-to for those looking for pleasant company on a walk and then some snuggles. Iris is a well-rounded lady who already has some manners down. She consistently keeps her kennel clean and walks well on leash. She knows how to sit and takes her treats gently (though she's a little picky with her treats - we're learning she likes the soft ones). Iris has also been sociable with other dogs in play group, where she showed a more gentle play style, and she is polite passing other dogs on walks.
Iris's hobbies include long sniffy walks and then gazing lovingly at her person. She'd love to make her way into your routine of morning walks and evening cuddles on the couch.
