PictureOtto
OTTO -  not yet available
Age: 4 years
Weight: 43 pounds
Dogs: Sure!
Cats: Sure!

Otto is going to make someone the best dog. He's obviously been neglected in his past as he's very malnourished and heartworm positive. But he's so sweet and gets along with dogs and cats and he doesn't bother chickens or ducks! Follow along his story as he heals from heartworm disease. He just started his treatment and is doing great. He's an amazing, super chill dog.

PictureKyro
KYRO - available
Age: 2 years
Weight: 85 pounds
Dogs: Could live with one other female dog
Cats: No way!

Kyro was rescued from a local shelter that's busting at the seems. He's done great with dogs he's met at his foster home, both female and male. However, Akitas really shouldn't be in a home with multiple dogs; it's much better to have just one dog companion. Kyro would likely do well living with one other female dog. Kyro has a high prey drive so cannot be in a home with any cats or small animals. He's great to walk on a leash, but you better hold on when he sees a squirrel, cat, or rabbit! Please go to the Akita Club of America and read up on the breed before considering adopting. Kyro is such a good boy!

PictureCalliope
CALLIOPE "CALLI" -  not yet available
Age: 8 years
Weight: 55 pounds
Dogs: Sure!
Cats: Sure!
Calli is the sweetest girl. The Animal Control Officer who picked her up from a "stray" call-in would almost guarantee that the house was her house. The neighbors said Calli lived there but the owner wouldn't admit it. Calli stared at her owner as he walked away from her and she didn't want to leave the driveway. Calli is now healing her heart in her foster home. So far she's doing great! She hasn't had any accidents, she slept through a thunderstorm, and she loves to snuggle. Other dogs and cats are friends to her! She appears to have some issues going on with her legs and will be evaluated and treated (if indicated) prior to adoption. Stay tuned!

PicturePorkchop
PORK CHOP -  available
Age: 3 years
Weight: 50 pounds
Dogs: Sure!
Cats: No thanks!
Happy face, neck rolls galore and a wagging tail that won't quit - that's Pork Chop! This jolly nugget has a cheerful goofball vibe and he's always good for a laugh. He has a warm personality and entertaining yet easy-going ways. Pork Chop is quite people-oriented and he just loves soaking up attention from humans. On walks, he takes frequent breaks to hop up onto a bench in the hopes of a cuddle session. He'll treat you to a kissy session like he's on a sloppy first date - but he still manages to make it charming. Pork Chop enjoys playtime with toys or bopping around on walks. He is a good car passenger - hops right in and looks out the window - so he's ready to hit the road for the next adventure, such as a hike on one of our local trails. Then he's ready to unwind with a cuddle session at the end of the day. Pork Chop knows how to sit (though sometimes he can't help bouncing up early in his enthusiasm for a cookie), and seems like he could be housebroken. He was gently sociable with other dogs for his play group assessment.

PictureMako
MAKO - available
Age: 6 months
Weight: 30 pounds
Dogs: Sure, as long as they are extremely tolerant of my exuberant play style.
Cats: Sure, as long as they are extremely tolerant and have plenty of spaces to take breaks from me.
Kids: They must be sturdy on their feet and not a fall risk.

Mako ended up in the shelter with a broken femur and skin infection. Once he arrived at his foster home, his infection was treated and his leg was amputated. He has recovered beautifully and is now ready for his forever home. Mako may be the type of puppy that makes you wonder why you got a puppy at times, but those ones always end up being the best ones! You are going to learn so much as you walk through life with his silly, clumsy little fella by your side. You also won’t go a single day without laughing at something ridiculous he’ll do, life is much more fun with a Mako in it. He’s the epitome of a class clown, and is looking for a forever home with someone that doesn’t take life too seriously. If you’re looking for puppy perfection, please continue your search.
He IS super fun though. He can be trusted to self entertain and as much of a baby shark as he can be, he leaves non dog intended items alone. He’s incredibly social, almost too social at times, and isnt afraid to let you (and everyone else) know he feels left out. He is not shy, nor will he be afraid of or ignore your guests. He has no issues with being alone for a work day, and sleeps through the night only vocalizing when he is up and ready to go out. He travels well, loves his car crate. Has been enjoying getting out for neighborhood walks. He’s busy and drivey and would probably excel as a sport dog, with consideration for his missing limb (not that it slows him down any). This dog is smart. He’s the kind of smart that you have to put to good use and challenge daily. He’s a wizard with a food toy and will help you test all your at home enrichment ideas. As smart as he is, he’s also a bit of an airhead. The amount of times he falls, misses the intended jump, runs into a door or straight into your legs per day will leave you wondering if he lost a few brain cells along with his leg. He means well, but bless his heart. He’d be best suited for a home with humans who are sturdy on their feet and not a fall risk. He’ll do okay in a home with dogs if they are extremely tolerant of his exuberance and full contact play style. Please don’t subject your senior dog to him. They deserve peace that does not exist with him. He runs through life with an open mouth, and while we are getting better, parts of your dog (or cat) may still end up in there. We would prefer his forever home either not have stairs, or have stairs that have carpeting/treads. Same goes for flooring, rugs will help on wood floors as he does slip and we want to protect his other limbs and joints at all costs. Mako is a little love, but he’s still learning how to dog in a way that doesn’t raise your blood pressure. He’ll need you to cut him some slack as he continues to learn boundaries. Not all dogs learn appropriate behaviors at the appropriate time, but we’re trying to catch up! While the drunk frat boy does still show up at times, we've seen so much improvement over the last month or so. He truly gets better and easier to live with each day and we feel like he can definitely be successful in a new place. Mako is fully vetted and ready to be your best friend! He knows his name, sit, down, has an amazing recall, hand target, knows which door to ask to go out from, and keeps his crate clean. We refuse to sugar coat things and act like he’s not a puppy because that helps no one. But if you’re still with us and think he’s the one for you, please apply!

PicturePennie
  • PENNIE - available
    Age: 11 months
    Weight: 30 pounds
    Dogs: Sure!
    Cats:

Need a lucky Pennie in your life? Sweet Pennie found herself in a very overcrowded shelter. Now she's enjoying the good life in her foster home. Pennie is a happy, spunky puppy with a stunning copper coat. She loves playing with other dogs and showing off her bouncy spin moves. She's happy to play with you but is also good for entertaining herself with a squeaky toy. She greets strangers with a big smile and wiggly body, and she is all about the belly rubs. Pennie keeps a clean crate and is quickly catching on to house training. She enjoys eating her meals out of Kongs and other enrichment toys, to help get some of her puppy energy out in a productive way. As young and fun as she is, she also loves a good couch cuddle! Pennie is so precious and going to make someone a great companion!

PictureIris
  • IRIS - available
    Age: 2 years
    Weight: 41 pounds
Dogs: She would thrive in a home as the only dog, but she could also live with a dog sibling or two!
    Cats: Probably not.
  • Kids: Sure! Iris has been gentle with the five-year-old in her foster home.

Iris just needed a chance to decompress and now she has it. From super stressed in an overcrowded shelter, to resting comfortably in her foster home, she is so relieved to be a Mercy's Door dog! Iris is sweet, petite and has an underbite to steal your heart! Queen of the "teef," Iris is a little charmer who is a wonderful balance of affectionate, silly, curious, and easy-going. She's a go-to for those looking for pleasant company on a walk and then some snuggles. Iris is a well-rounded lady who already has some manners down. She consistently keeps her kennel clean and walks well on leash. She knows how to sit and takes her treats gently (though she's a little picky with her treats - we're learning she likes the soft ones). Iris has also been sociable with other dogs in play group, where she showed a more gentle play style, and she is polite passing other dogs on walks. Iris's hobbies include long sniffy walks and then gazing lovingly at her person. She'd love to make her way into your routine of morning walks and evening cuddles on the couch.

PictureTug
TUG - not yet available
Age: 8 years

Poor Tug found himself in a shelter blind and with bleeding growths. He is now much more comfortable in his foster home and will be getting evaluated soon to determine possible treatments for his vision and growths. He has started figuring out a routine to his water bowl in his foster home. He also has not had any accidents! He is blindness stop him. He doesn't let his blindness stop him and has learned to navigate his foster mom's house. He plays with toys and loves to snuggle. He loves all animals and people.
